In Ireland, we are never far from at least one…
Water catchments and the Local Authority Waters Programme
We all live in water catchments and depend on water for our health, well-being and livelihoods. But, water quality is under threat and this animation explains what the Local Authority Waters Programme, public bodies and communities are doing to bring about change.
The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) was previously called the Local Authority Waters & Communities Office.
LAWPRO has three core aims:
- To coordinate efforts by Local Authorities, public bodies and other stakeholders to achieve the environmental objectives of the EU Water Framework Directive
- To support local communities who wish to get involved in the care of their local waters and engage with river basin planning
- To build a better understanding of the issues impacting on water quality at a local level and recommend improvement measures
